Traffic Flow Altered During Construction Project on Q-Arena

CLEVELAND – The City of Cleveland, Division of Police announces that the traffic pattern around the Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field will be altered during renovations at the Q. The traffic pattern changes are scheduled to begin on February 5, 2018 and last until approximately mid-2019.

Site: Barriers will be set up on Huron Road from Ontario Street to East 6th Street along the westbound lanes. North of the barriers will have two lanes open for vehicular travel. South of the barriers will be closed for storage and utilization of construction equipment. Street parking will be restricted as needed. Pedestrians will be able to utilize new re-defined crosswalks.

Flow Pattern, Weekday Non-game Days: Traffic will be maintained on Huron Road with one lane eastbound and one lane westbound through the construction zone. Morning and evening rush hour will be staffed with officers and/or traffic controllers to ensure traffic flow is optimized and maintained.

Flow Pattern, Before Games/Events: The following restrictions will apply beginning two hours prior to games or events at Quicken Loans Arena or Progressive Field:

  • Huron Road will be restricted to two lanes eastbound from Ontario Street to the GatewayEast Garage entrance.
  • Huron Road will be closed to westbound traffic at Prospect Avenue.
  • East 4th Street southbound will be left turn only onto Huron Road, no changes to East 4th Street northbound.
  • Rush hour operations will supersede Game/Event Day restrictions.

Flow Pattern, End of Game/Event: Traffic flow for the end of games/events at Quicken Loans Arena or Progressive Field shall be restricted as follows:

  • Vehicles departing the Gateway East Garage at the Huron Road exit will only be permitted to exit left (westbound) onto Huron Road.
  • East Fourth Street will be right turn only at Huron Road.

“No Parking” signage shall be posted prior to events. Drop off location for the disabled will be at the Ontario Street cutouts next to both the Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field. Pick up and drop off for livery vehicles shall remain at Huron Road west of Ontario Street. Bus stops for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority lines shall remain at their current locations.

This plan shall be evaluated and additional adjustments may be made to enhance the traffic flow and to better serve the public and guests to the downtown area.
