Media Relations Director

Dan Williams is Media Relations Director for the Jackson Administration. Mr. Williams, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, brings significant experience in media relations and public affairs to the City of Cleveland. As Media Relations Director, Williams is responsible for leading the Jackson Administration’s media relations efforts, enhancing the City’s social media communications and assisting with crisis communications.

Williams has been responsible for developing and maintaining website content as well as media and community outreach. During the last 14-plus years with the U.S. Army, Williams served as a public affairs officer, Chief of Public and Congressional Affairs and served two tours of duty in Iraq, including time as a Media Relations Officer. He served as editor of the Army’s and Defense Department’s newspaper at Fort Lewis, WA, managed three museums as well as a 53-person band, and developed and maintained regional, national and international media relationships.

Raised in Penn Yan, NY, Williams graduated from Penn Yan Academy and earned a bachelor's degree in Bible and Theology from Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, PA, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Officer Candidate School as a 2nd Lieutenant and rose to the rank of Colonel before retiring in October 2013. He also earned a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in 2009.

Williams has been married to his best friend, Celeste, for 24 years and has four children. He is active as a mentor with the Boy Scouts of America, has a passion for people and is an avid cyclist.
