First Pitch of Summer

First Pitch of Summer, presented by Progressive and KeyBank, celebrates Cleveland’s rich baseball heritage with 1,000 community members "pitching" a baseball from the historic League Park to the modern Progressive Field. The baseball will travel approximately three miles, tossed from one person to the next, on a journey to become the ball used for the ceremonial first pitch in the Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees game on June 8.

In true Cleveland fashion, we're making a party out of the event. League Park will be the hub, with a festival leading off the event at 10 a.m., complete with music, roaming entertainment, baseball-themed games and displays, vendors, food trucks, health resources, Baseball Heritage Museum tours and autograph sessions with Cleveland Indians legends. Keep an eye out for Slider and other mascots throughout the pitch route. You never know who you'll see!

First Pitch of Summer festival and celebration is open to the community and free of charge. Those who wish to be a part of the pitch relay must be registered to participate. Registration is now available on this website and will soon be available through various City of Cleveland Recreation Centers
